So many parts of us are rooted in our childhood. The summers that seemed to stretch on for lifetimes, the innocent adventures and the carefree wonder are the perfect combination for deep feelings of safety, love, and happiness. When choosing a spot for their wedding, Vija and Tomas were understandably drawn to a place that had meant so much to them as children. Dainava, a summer camp for children with Lithuanian roots and a place they had spent some of their happiest times, was the perfect choice.
We got the chance to spend some time away from Toronto, and made the drive to Manchester, Michigan in the United States, where Camp Dainava is tucked away. Gathering friends and family together in the landscape of their youth, the wedding took place under the shadow of an ancient oak tree. The couple exchanged vows of love that had been planted all the way back to their years spent playing at Dainava—vows that will be as strong as the towering tree that watched over the ceremony. It was a very, very special day.
Well…the word shadow implies that there were sunny skies, which wasn’t exactly the case this time. The weather held off long enough to capture some great photos during a walk though nearby fields, but out luck couldn’t last forever. Autumn rains splashed down, and while the ceremony was mostly dry thanks to the helpful branches of that enormous wonderful tree, the storm eventually drove us all into the tent to get the festivities going. While the DJ and dancing were great from the start, you have to believe us when we tell you that the party didn’t really get into full swing until the accordions came out.
While I never imagined I would use the words “accordion” and “epic” in the same sentence, we saw firsthand how to get two united families to really cut loose: bring on the accordions. The tent was filled with epic music, epic fun, and epic love that will last a lifetime.
Special thank you to Egle and Eric from Egle Gardens for making our stay so warm and fun, we love you guys.
